1. There Are Extensive Studies on CBD

Although CBD is not an FDA-approved medicine, and more research needs to be done, several studies have been done on the effects of CBD in humans and animals. CBD is known to have anti-inflammatory and anti-anxiety properties that can help mitigate pain or soreness.

A study done by the Journal of Cannabis Research showed that people had used CBD oil for several reasons, including anxiety, insomnia, stress, depression, pain, skin conditions, post-workout muscle soreness, and general health and wellbeing.

2. CBD is Legal

CBD, or Cannabidiol, is extracted legally, and often organically, from grown hemp plants. Most CBD products are derived from hemp and not marijuana. THC, or Tetrahydrocannabinol, can be found in high amounts in marijuana and is responsible for the “high” effect. CBD has been found not to have psychoactive properties.

3. “Whole Plant” Hemp vs. THC Free

CBD oil can contain multiple cannabinoids. The oils used for medical and wellness purposes come from the hemp plant. There are three main types of CBD oil that you’ll hear about.

  • Isolate (CBD Only)
  • Full Spectrum CBD Oil
  • Broad Spectrum CBD Oil

The difference between them is the chemical compound content found in each product. CBD isolate only contains CBD and is often found in crystal, oil, or powder form. Full-spectrum CBD has all of the cannabinoids and other plant compounds, including small amounts of THC. Broad spectrum CBD contains all cannabinoids and plant compounds other than THC.

4. We Naturally Produce Cannabinoids

Simply put, cannabinoids regulate how cells communicate or send, receive, or process messages. Your body naturally produces cannabinoids to influence hormone release. Cannabinoid receptors are in our endocannabinoid or ECS system and can affect your mood, appetite, pain, and varying cognitive functions.

Since your body is equipped with ways for CBD to go into your body, it can be beneficial to take CBD for your overall well-being. It can help with physical pains and your mental health — including anxiety. If you’re not dealing with anxiety, it leaves more room to have fun and enjoy day-to-day activities.

Athletes have even started using it to help with their sports injuries. They don’t have to worry about using possibly addicting medication while trying to help their soreness and pain. They can also use CBD oil to help with their recovery. If athletes can utilize the cannabinoids in a long-term manner, then it doesn’t act as a quick fix as medications would.

5. Can Relieve Pain

Using CBD oil is beneficial for signaling the transmitters in your ECS system to soothe pain and provide a more comforting feel to your body. One of the most helpful endocannabinoids is anandamide, which can activate your CB1 or the nerves in your brain and central nervous system (spinal cord). The CB1 receptors can help to:

  • Relieve depression
  • Lower intestinal inflammation
  • Lower blood pressure
  • Decrease anxiety, fear, and paranoia
  • Help with symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)

The Journal of Cannabis Research study showed that older people were more likely to use CBD for pain management. However, people of all ages, and pets, can utilize CBD products to help reduce their pain.

6. CBD is Nonaddictive

Since CBD doesn’t hold psychoactive properties, it’s one of the main reasons researchers have determined that CBD is not an addictive substance. The Journal of Drug and Alcohol Dependence published a study in March 2017 that studied subjects who frequently smoked marijuana.

They administered various oral doses of either a CBD product or a placebo with THC usage. It was found that people who had the placebo had the same likelihood of addiction compared to patients supplied with CBD.

7. Helps with Addiction

A study published in The American Journal of Psychiatry found that CBD could help with addiction treatments. The study analyzed individuals with heroin use disorder and how CBD could help reduce their cue-induced craving and anxiety. They tested the acute ((1 hour, 2 hours, and 24 hours), short-term (3 consecutive days), and protracted (7 days after the last of three consecutive daily administrations) effects of CBD administration.

Cue-induced cravings happen when regular users are in an environment that cues their normal dosage time. This can include times when they regularly take heroin or being in an environment where it regularly happens, like hanging out with friends.

Anxiety can occur if they don’t get their usual dosage because they’re breaking their routine or unsure how their body will withdraw. The study found that CBD reduced their cue-induced craving and anxiety.

8. Helps with Epilepsy and Seizures

Even though the FDA has not approved CBD, Epidiolex is an approved cannabidiol that can be used to mitigate epilepsy and seizures resulting from Lennox-Gastaut syndrome and Dravet syndrome—two rare forms of epilepsy.

In the trials of Epidiolex, 516 patients with Lennox-Gastaut syndrome and Dravet syndrome receive either the medication or a placebo. If Epidiolex is taken along with other prescribed medications, it can decrease the frequency of seizures.

9. CBD Can Affect Medications

CBD is generally considered safe from side effects. However, even though Epidiolex can be taken with medications to help reduce seizures, CBD can affect how medicine reacts in your body. It’s crucial to speak with your doctor about your CBD usage and see if that can affect any of your medications.

CBD can affect how your body metabolizes certain medications, which may change your blood levels and affect their therapeutic impact.

10. CBD Products are Different

Quality varies widely between CBD products. It’s dependent on how the hemp plant is grown and the type of CBD product you get.

The FDA has found that some products don’t match the claims made on their labels about the THC levels, even if CBD is in the product. The quality of CBD is dependent on who it’s produced by.

At Red Raven CBD, we source all our hemp from US-based, small family-run farms that are as dedicated to delivering pure, high-quality products to customers as we are. In addition to having our products tested by outside labs, we rigorously test every new product ourselves to ensure it is safe, potent, and effective before it hits the shelves.
